The role of Youth Services Committees is to identify the greatest potential threats to children and youth and avert or lessen these dangers; and encourage the availability of facilities and services for these young people. There are a wide variety of issues that may be addressed by this committee. Identify those areas that are a priority for your school community by surveying parents, students, talking with counselors, teachers and administrators, and reviewing your school’s improvement plan.

Alcohol is the #1 drug of choice among children and adolescents, is used by youth 10 times more than all illegal drugs combined and contributes to the top 3 causes of death for youth under 21 each year. This year, ECCC PTA is collaborating with Cobb Alchohol Task Force to educate and arm parents about the dangers of underage and binge drinking. Georgia PTA had passed a Social Host resolution at its 2009 Convention and our Board of Directors continued that tradition by passing the CATF Social Host Resolution in December. Signing this resolution supports the PTA Mission of speaking on behalf of children/youth, assisting parents in developing skills in protecting their children/youth and encouraging parent involvement. Your PTSA can also pass the Resolution to show your local unit’s support of this issue as well. There are other ways for stakeholders to Take action now! Questions? Please contact our Youth Services Chair at youthservices@ecccpta.org
Thanks to you, our PTA & Cobb Alcohol Taskforce Event held in November was a great success! There were 39 attendees from PTSAs, law enforcement and other entities committed to learning about and preventing underage drinking.
